The readers of one of the most famously liberal papers in the nation, the Globe and Mail (Bell Globemedia), agree with Prime Minister Harper and not with them. And that’s just funny.
Yet watch as they commission a poll next week (using a liberal-left polling firm) proving that they’re right—Harper is a big fat meaniepants and Canadians from coast to coast (only in the big liberal-left city cores in actual fact) agree that the media is perfectly fair and balanced and not anti-conservative at all. Which they will then expect you to read with a straight face and lap up in full. Because they reported it. And they are always right. Because they are, by God, the media.
This is precisely the kind of thing that is causing the liberal media such grief and causing them to act out like teenagers or immature, unprofessional, petulant first-year journalism students. They repeatedly throw out these transparent efforts to find —or create— issues that might bind their liberal readership together against what in their world view is nasty conservative-think, but the readers continually fail to fall in line. I might be petulant too if that kept happening to me.
Globe and Mail poll as of May 25 7:20 AM PDT
