Iran failed to suspend uranium enrichment: UN
CTV.ca News Staff
Iran has violated a UN Security Council deadline by failing to suspend uranium enrichment activity, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Thursday.
In a report to the IAEA, UN nuclear chief Mohamed ElBaradei said that Iran was continuing a variety of enrichment activities—showing no intention of meeting the Feb. 21 deadline.
The report also claims that Iran has set up over 300 centrifuges in a plant where ‘industrial-scale’ uranium enrichment is planned.
Shocker.
But not to worry:
Iran’s defiance means the country will most likely be subjected to further sanctions. A limited set was imposed on the country by the council last month.
Or to use U.N. parlance: If you don’t behave, we’re gonna have to tell you again! And if you still don’t, we’ll make amends!
