November is civic election month in our neck of the woods, as in many across the great white north.
Here in our home on the west coast, the incumbent liberal-left mayor and her team came out with a flashy brochure outlining their accomplishments.
Some background info: After much controversy, our liberal-left town council planted dozens of new trees along a major thoroughfare, and decided on palm trees instead of the usual boring old maples and cedars that you see everywhere. This town is relatively warm and sunny all year and palms do well here—there’s lots of palm trees and banana trees around here—we have a couple ourselves.
So under the category of “Innovation” in their election brochure, they list, among other things:
· Introducing palms as signature trees, giving the main … streets a unique appearance while moving to a tree species appropriate for climate change.
Yup! Getting ready for the day that global warming turns us into a tropical paradise! We’re so far ahead of the eight ball in our little town that we will be laughing at all your silly dried-out firs and hemlocks in a year or two as we bask in the globally-warmed Canadian tropics over here surrounded by “a tree species appropriate for climate change”!
Good times.
