“Hidden Agenda” ‘06

Now that the liberals’ media has been caught in their own slime, and 33% of Canadians have decided that it’s in fact the LIBERAL Party that has the “hidden agenda”(

™ liberal media and their party

), versus only 25% who think it’s the Conservatives that do, they are working feverishly with their liberal-friendly media companies all over Quebec and Ontario to secure other juicy anti-Conservative bon mots

I understand that they were advised against calling Conservatives “freaks”, given that it’s quite possible the plurality of Canadians are in fact conservative while also loving Canada—but they still seem to think that they’re, you know, “freaks”!—much like the theme of this web site.  Regular visitors to ProudToBeCanadian know from the samples of my emails that it is an altogether incongruous thing to the liberals for us to have a web site called “ProudToBeCanadian”, and yet be a conservative web site.  It’s the second most common hate mail that I get, after anti-Ann Coulter hate mail (“she’s an American, ya know!”, and “’Nuff said, eh!”).

I’m alternately told to “leave Canada”, or the really wily ones phrase it in the form of a question, thereby signaling to me in their nuanced intellectual way, their ever-so-high degree of that famous liberal-left “tolerance”:  “Why don’t you move to Texas?” often followed by “where you belong”, and nearly always by swear words and “neo-con”.

One cannot possibly love Canada, we’re told… and yet be conservative. That ain’t liberal!  And by God, a fella and his wife can’t love Canada without also loving everything the secularist liberal-left is doing to our Canada socially, culturally, and economically. If you’re not liberal, you don’t love Canada.  If you don’t love gay marriage and changing the definition of “Canadian family”, then (a) you’re a “homophobe” and (b) you should shut up, and leave Canada, you “extremist” Neanderthal.  And so on.

So it was precisely on that vein that yesterday morning, as Stephen Harper was answering questions, the obedient liberal media checked their Blackberries and having seen the newest message, shouted out the new question, “Mr. Harper, do you love Canada”(

™).

Ah.  So there we have it.  The ‘06 version of “Hidden Agenda”(

).  We don’t know if it will stick, or if this is merely a trial balloon.  One can only imagine the liberal campaign spin-room polling madly.

“He’s a conservative, how could he love Canada”.  See?  To love Canada is to love liberals—it’s to be liberal.  It’s one and the same.  Now you’re thinkin’ like a liberal!

It’s unclear how the scheme was deployed, exactly.  We know it started when Mr. Harper finished his opening campaign speech on Tuesday November 29.  And we know that there were messages being sent and read between the Liberal Party operatives and the liberal media.  We simply don’t know who started it.

The Conservative Party believes that the word came from the Prime Minister’s handlers. They wrote in their
