Harper Conservatives giving Canadians plenty to talk and think about over the Christmas holiday

…and I imagine the idea is to do just that.  Roll out all kinds of policy and plans, and let it sink in through the Christmas season.  Families get together and friends get together over the Christmas holidays, and discuss how Mr. Harper and conservative Canadians aren’t “scary” —quite the contrary; the guy who just poured you that yummy rum ’n egg nog with way too much rum —is one of the millions of conservative Canadians who are actually among us and providing the chip dip.  They are us in many cases, much to their surprise.

Of course you have to actually tell people.

Continuing their successful and seemingly effortless ability to drive the whole election campaign agenda, to which all other parties are continually having to answer, The Conservatives rolled out more details of their child care plan, which is the only one in Canada that makes any sense at all if you aren’t a socialist or a communist.

Rona Ambrose I’ve heard some good quotes from Conservative MP Rona Ambrose such as:

“Parents, and not the federal government, are in the best position to determine which type of child care best suits their children.”

…and the most famous quote of all:

“We fought long and hard for the right to vote, for the right to participate in universities and the work force, and the right to make our own choices. We don’t need old white guys telling us what to do.”

But Mr. Harper said today:

“It’s hard enough to be a parent, but governments should support your choices, not limit them,” he said. “In fact, the only people who should be making these choices are parents, not politicians, not the government.”

The CTV.ca web site explains the difference succinctly, in a way that only a socialist or communist could love:

The Liberal $5 billion child-care plan, in contrast, distributes money to the provinces, which will then have control over subsidizing day care.
