Perhaps the Charest position is too complicated for most liberals and leftists in Canada.
Jean Charest says he wouldn’t attend protests where Hezbollah flag is visible
QUEBEC (CP) – Quebec Premier Jean Charest says he would never participate in any demonstration where the Hezbollah flag is visible.
But Charest is refusing to criticize sovereigntist leaders Andre Boisclair and Gilles Duceppe who both took part in a recent protest in Montreal in favour of peace in Lebanon.
That demonstration featured many people waving the Hezbollah flag.
Speaking in Quebec City today, Charest said it’s difficult to control everything that happens at such protests.
The Parti Quebecois leader and the Bloc Quebecois leader have come in for some flak for attending the demonstration.
Gee. I wonder if they or any of their ingenious political handlers could possibly have guessed that there’d be any anti-west, anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-Bush, anti-Harper, anti-conservative, anti-capitalist, terrorist-supporting Hezbollah flag-flying folks there.
Maybe it’s Charest who’s missing the point.
