On Friday, the state-run people’s web site, CBC.ca, which informs Canadians about what’s what because there is absolutely no other way for us poor Canadians to get information, misinformed Canadians.
Did they know that they did that? Well, yes. They later (on April 7—a full week later) admitted it in another place, but left the original misinformation intact without updating it or writing a new article setting us straight about the important facts—the actual facts. The misinformation left us Canadians thinking that the Israelis had bombed the car of a Palestinian.
Here’s how your state-run CBC.ca informs you (my yellow highlighting):
Palestinian militant killed in Gaza
Last Updated Fri, 31 Mar 2006 06:45:51 EST
CBC NewsA top Palestinian militant was killed in an Israeli air strike on his car in Gaza City on Friday, witnesses said.
[…]
Wrong. The Israelis never did that to that “militant” —a rival Islamoterrorist Palestinian lunatic squad did that.
They went on:
Hospital officials said Abu Yousef Abu Quka, a commander of the Popular Resistance Committees, had been killed in an explosion that left his white Subaru little more than a twisted hunk of charred metal.
Witnesses said the car exploded after an air strike. The Israeli military had no comment.
Witnesses, huh? Really.
In a small “correction” on their “Corrections and Clarifications” page (with a jovial sub head of “CBC.CA NEWS – Mistakes and Mis-takes”), they admit this:
Any more news from those “witnesses”? I wonder what other unnamed oh-so-reliable sources the CBC.ca news team relies upon. And to whom, exactly, did these “witnesses” talk? Was there a CBC reporter at the scene? We don’t know. The reportage is credited to “CBC News”.
Was the “witness” Michael Moore?
But just who, besides me perhaps, would ever go to the CBC’s “Corrections and Clarifications” page? It’s not linked on any of their main menus. The Corrections and Clarifications page with the correction is not appended to the article. It’s nowhere to be found unless you’re seriously looking, and hard.
And why, given that they can and do update online stories, could they not have updated this story? Why not, in fact, write another story explaining the rather egregious mistake—one in which Canada’s state-run media blamed the nation of Israel for an attack on Palestinians (“militants”) which was actually perpetrated by other Palestinian terrorists?
Is this how much the state-run media in Canada care about informing Canadians? Perhaps there are other better news options for Canadians, which don’t cost Canadians in excess of one BILLION taxpayer dollars per year.
