Dion on his CBC today: “I never said that we’ll have for sure a recession.”

How many times has Liberal Frenchman Stephan Dion said—or at least happily implied or allowed folks to think—that we’re in a recession NOW—the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression—and blamed it all on Harper and Conservatives and “neo-cons” and “right-wing” economic policies etc.?  How many of his team of candidates have declared that the economy is worse than collapsed and that we’re in a crisis worse than Armageddon itself?

So here was a shocking question from a reporter in a post-Dion speech this morning (I think I recognize the voice as that of CTV’s Tom Clark, but I could be wrong), and the shocking answer from Dion:

Reporter: “The IMF said today that they were NOT predicting a recession in Canada this year or next, uh, they’re saying that Canada in fact will LEAD the developed world through this crisis.  At the same time, the World Economic Forum has said that Canada has, in its estimation, the best banking system in the entire world.  You keep on talking about recession in this country.  Who’s right?  You or the IMF?”

Stephane Dion: “I never said that we’ll have for sure a recession.  I said that we may avoid one if we have a government that works with Canadians to make sure it does not happen…”

I call bunkum.  He’s insinuated—at the very least—that that we’re worse than in a mere recession, and that it will get “even worse” under Harper and the Conservatives.  He has trashed-talked our country’s economy as much as he can, as has his left butt cheek, Jack Layton.  And all their minions.

And by the way, in his answer, he then went on and declared that it’s because of the Liberal Party that the Canadian banks are solid (…and yet if I understand correctly, it’s because of the “neo-con” Harper and the “right-wing” that Canada is “in a recession” and in a massive “crisis”… yadda.  It’s complicated!)

The next question from a different reporter was also a good one:  “You said it’s not for politicians to tell the banks how to do their business.  Then in your next sentence you said that Mr. Flaherty is doing nothing.  But you CAN’T do anything, right?

Answer:  “No….”

So that’s as clear as can be.
