Of course, the Dems attached billions upon billions of dollars in superfluous government spending on all manner of absolutely unrelated things—like a hike in the minimum wage—that have absolutely nothing to do with the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, in order to con their fellow liberals into playing ball. The Afghan and Iraq war spending needs were about 100 billion. The Dems added 17 billion in extras. They will then blame Bush for excess spending.
I love how the liberals’ CNN division reports on the lack of surrender to Bin Laden timelines by going right to their readers’ hearts—the far leftists —for color commentary:
…Antiwar groups are furious at the decision of Democratic leaders to remove the timetables, arguing that voters sent the message in November by placing Congress in Democratic hands that they want the war to end.
MoveOn.org released a statement saying it would consider recruiting primary challengers to lawmakers who support the bill, as well as advertising against them in their districts or states.
Nancy Pelosi, who voted against her own party’s bill, is hiding under her desk. Not to worry: she’s wearing one of those fancy pant suits.
EXTRA:
Joel much amused at the uber-liberals’ NBC division’s coverage of this today. “Caving-in”? “Conceding” to Bush? “Bowing to President Bush”? All this and more today from NBC, leaving no doubt whose team they’re on.
From the great Media Research Center (again today!), they report how this morning NBC’s morning gal Matt Lauer pressed snuggly guest Democrat John Edwards on why the Dems appear to be “caving” to President Bush. Fight on, dammit!, he seemed to be saying.
Matt Lauer: “But, and this is a big but, the headline here is no deadline for U.S. troops. Why did the Democrats cave-in?”
Apparently not satisfied with Edwards’ response, Lauer again repeated: “Why’d they cave-in then?”
And in their fitful report at NBCNEWS.com this evening, their sub headline is: “Democrats, conceding to Bush, don’t insist on troop withdrawal timetable”, and opened like this:
WASHINGTON – Bowing to President Bush, the Democratic-controlled House reluctantly approved fresh billions for the Iraq war on Thursday, minus the troop withdrawal timeline that drew his earlier veto.
The 280-142 vote sent the bill to the Senate for final passage, expected later Thursday night.
Five months in power on Capitol Hill, Democrats coupled their concession to the president…
Perhaps the Dems are “conceding to” the will of the people back home? Nah! That’s so stupid!
