I’ve always said most of the union movement in Canada is nothing but another political party or a division of the socialist you’ve got to be kidding party. It could easily be argued that they already own and run the NDP.
Now I see where the taxpayer-paid public employees’ union in Ontario, CUPE, is making quite a deal on their web site of the fact that they have at least ten candidates running in the upcoming Ontario provincial election—all of the ones they mention running for the socialist you’ve got to be kidding party, the Ontario NDP. Some CUPE folks are and will run for the Communist Party of Ontario—they did run some in previous elections in Ontario under the Communist Party (Ontario) banner (they think the NDP are too “right-wing”!).
CUPE mentions almost all the CUPE-associated folks running in the election. But I see where they neglect to mention Stuart Ryan, who works for a CUPE local at Carleton University, and is a CAW member. He’s running for the Communist Party. Stuart is President of his CAW local and a delegate to the Ottawa District Labour Council. But I guess CUPE just mentions members, not employees.
Anyway don’t worry, there’s no conflict of interest. They’re “progressives”. Or “communists”—or whatever. The important thing is they’re not conservatives, otherwise this would all be suspect.
Distasteful though it was, I had to go to CUPE Ontario’s web site to look more at their political ambitions and promotions. I liked the description of one of their candidates—she sounds so yummy—in that socialist Muslim activist kind of way (the other ones just sound exactly like boring communists to me):
…Shaila Kurbria, a member of CUPE 1281, served as events coordinator with Ryerson Students’ Union. A well-known Muslim activist, she has been involved with anti-war rallies and was SAC Equity Vice President. Shaila established the first food bank and helped reinstate childcare service at the University of Toronto at Mississauga and was a co-founder of the Black Youth of Canada Coalition Against Violence…
And I see where CUPE has fired up a huge carbon-footprint-mobile in order to transport nobody, really, but rather just to simply advertise and advance their socialist and militant unionist cause and their politics. It’s a huge bus much like Their Prophet David Suzuki’s mammoth diesel tank which he used last summer to advance his cause across Canada (the irony went right over his giant genius enviro-guru head) and make him more famous. Don’t worry, the bus thing is not wasteful or greenhouse gassy, they’re “progressives”. The important thing is they’re not conservatives, otherwise this would all be suspect.
I’ve tried hard but have been unable to find photos of the CUPE cough coach in the media except these ones. The CTV only had the one which just zooms-in on the anti-“right-wing” Liberal and Progressive Conservative message painted thereon, since that’s clearly what the media wanted to exhibit—rather than questioning CUPE’s enviro hypocrisy and showing the whole huge girth of the gaseous motor coach/billboard.
The CUPE coach o’ hypocrisy, side one, red:
Our public employees hope you “Vote NDP” on October 10
The CUPE coach o’ hypocrisy, side two, green.
Ironically, it’s really just “two sides of the same coin”.
(LATE UPDATE: This has nothing to do with it—just a funny coincidental headline for a column at OpinionJournal.com which seems to fit: “Red Terror, Green Terror – Anti-Americanism is the common thread”.
Their Prophet David Suzuki’s Magic Enviro Carpet
But anyway. The CUPE bus thing reminds me of Al Gore’s “Gore-One” private Gulfstream jet from which he was found sneakily deboarding (right into a big black limo) a couple of weeks ago, as revealed by Sean Hannity on Hannity’s America last night.
(Hat tip to DC in YOW for the CUPE item)
