My favorite Olympian to watch for the sole purpose of admiring her for her athletic prowess and nothing more no really I mean it no really, Sasha Cohen from the U.S., didn’t win her Olympic Gold in women’s figure skating. So that was sad.
But Canada is doing unbelievably great this year! How can I not be happy and excited? And I am!
Cindy Klassen is my new Canadian sports hero. The winningest Olympian in our history and right up there with the world’s greatest.
I loved this quote from NBC’s Olympic web site at NBCSports.com (excellent Olympics photos and everything else) about the awards ceremony when O Canada! was being sung (we won the Gold (Clara Hughes) and the Bronze (Cindy Klassen)):
During the Canadian anthem, Hughes pulled Klassen to the top spot and they embraced while singing exuberantly.
It’s just a sentence. Words. But they meant everything to me! PROUD TO BE CANADIAN much? I was! It brought me back to the Jamie Sale and David Pelletier days in the last Olympics when I was so proud my throat literally hurt.
Twenty second tear-jerker (for me, anyway)
God bless you Cindy Klassen, Canadian! (And on the God subject… my next blog entry…. is about that, sort of…)
