Every election the Liberal Party of Canada reminds the Canadian electorate that Liberals are the only true guardians of Canadian values. No other party, they tell us, exemplify these Canadian values like the Liberal Party. Because Liberals are the paragons of Canadian values, we the Canadian electorate, have a duty to elect them.
Now, I must admit, when a Liberal mentions Canadian values I feel nauseous. Yes that is right, nauseous. I have heard that broken record played every election and I am sick of it.
The Liberal government’s action plan on any substantive issue has been one of minimizing, deflecting and obfuscating. Translate this in to our Liberal government’s game plan, and one cannot be surprised by the running, ducking and hiding that occurs during Question Period which has exasperated the opposition and wearied Canadians. It serves the Liberal Party well to leave Canadian values as some sort of nebulous abstract rather than letting Canadians onto the big secret of what constitutes Canadian values.
So what are these Canadian values? I, as a Canadian have no idea what these exclusively Canadian values are. Is tolerance an exclusively a Canadian value? Is openness an exclusively Canadian value? Is honesty an exclusively a Canadian values? How about prudence, fortitude or justice? So what exactly are the abstract ideals that qualify as Canadian values? I don’t know, do you?
All is not lost though. The Liberal Party tells us that Liberals are the best examples of Canadian Values. Liberal Party tells us that Liberal values are Canadian values. So what does the Liberal Party of Canada value?
If values are based on principles, what then are the principles of the Liberal Party?
The Liberal Party just does not have any principles that you or I might consider principles. They just don’t have the moral fortitude to act out of principle. Well let’s face it, they don’t have any morals to speak of. After all, this is the party which built its successes by following the popular wind in which ever direction it blew that particular day.
Look at the Liberals’ record of governance. The Liberals’ idea of governance is the dispensation of special rights to and placation of every Liberal-friendly special interest group. Be it the extremists from the gay and lesbian lobby, pro-abortion lobby or extremists from the gender feminist organizations, the Liberals have found common cause with them. All this to elicit support from these organizations come election time.
The first principle common among Liberals is the principle of power. Hanging on to the reins of power is all that the Liberals have ever cared about even if it is to the detriment of Canada and Canadians. Retain power at any cost is the first abiding principle Liberals have maintained under the ChrÃ
