Way back when, I constantly mocked the progressives under Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin and all who came before him for their USSR-like use of the official government state-sponsorship symbol at every event, festival, even remotely public “holiday” celebration (never a Christmas one, mind you, just everything else), every TV show or movie that was even remotely made in Canada or by someone born in Canada, every one of the thousands of government social programs, and every cotton pickin’ chance they got. Like statues and posters of Stalin on every corner, to me.
It disgusted me, but I saw where they were actually proud of the fact that nearly every facet of our lives was increasingly being produced by, or in some way “sponsored by”, the ever growing, and ever so benevolent, government. Even the comedy shows on TV, which they must have thought were yet another a core function of government.
The progressives think “Canadian Culture” is something that must be created by government decree. We’re too stupid to create our own culture. We might do it wrong. Here is where they suddenly and exclusively HATE the word “organic.”
I hoped we’d seen an end to that.
We have not.
I used to make a habit of showing you how at the end of every show in Canada, you’d find that freakish state label, in addition to the various provincial government sponsorship logos, and various ministry logos, as if this were yet another necessary government project — this project being a “funny” TV show.
Apparently the Conservatives, who, make no mistake, keep proving to us that they are progressives, also think it’s a core function of government to provide for the comedy needs of Canadians. We are a nation incapable even of laughing, without the support of the benevolent state.
