According to the Ottawa Citizen, which has a reporter dumb enough to take a tour, Canada’s new submarines
submarines which were purchased from the UK after they dumped them because they were too old and decrepit, have now had the Trading Spaces workover and are looking for some juicy war action which Canada never ever ever gets involved in.
Perhaps they’ll send them over to fight in Sudan.
The diesel-electric subs had been mothballed by the Royal Navy and Canadian officers originally thought reactivating them would be straightforward. Then Canadian and British engineers discovered a series of problems. High-pressure welds in three of the vessels had to be replaced. One of the submarines had a problem with its fuel tank. A third had seawater leaking into its hull. Cracks were found in some valves. Victoria had a dent in her hull that had to be fixed. There were also general concerns about the quality of air in the subs.
Last June, HMCS Corner Brook made an emergency surfacing after 500 litres of seawater flowed into the sub because of minor equipment problems and human error. Navy officials determined the crew reacted quickly and at no time was there any danger.
