Conservative leader Stephen Harper says the Martin liberals are trying to keep Atlantic Canada down. And of course he’s absolutely right. The Liberals must keep as many Canadians as possible down in order to force them to be reliant on government. The liberal-left live for social programs, and unless there’s a perceived “need”, a falsely-created, government-induced “demand” for them, what use are the liberal-left?
Socialism thrives on victims.
OTTAWA (CP) – Paul Martin’s position in negotiations over East Coast oil royalties and equalization payments would keep Atlantic Canada poor, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper charged Thursday.
And he moved a motion in the House of Commons calling the prime minister’s attitude “deplorable.”
Harper said Newfoundland and Nova Scotia should be treated no differently than Alberta was in the 1950s when oil and gas were just beginning to fuel the province’s economy.
He said Alberta was allowed to keep its oil royalties without clawbacks on its equalization payments and that allowed it to become a modern-day powerhouse.
Atlantic Canada deserves the same, Harper said, and he called on Martin to fulfil an election campaign promise to Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams.
