President Bush phones Prime Minister-designate Stephen Harper: discusses Canada becoming 51st state and turning Canada into an Iranian-style theocratic state full of Jesus-lovers and armed imperialist war criminal neo-cons.
Sorry—no—I was just skimming the stories at the extreme-left-wing-without-admitting-it Toronto Star and I got stuck in their funky version of reality headspace. Like the one headlined “Harper’s U.S. neocon booster changes his story”. Oooh! Juicy “neo-con” news! That’ll keep at least 37 of their fringe left-wing subscribers for another week.
(This is the actual caption accompanying the photo from Yahoo: Reuters – Wed Jan 25, 7:35 PM ET U.S. President George W. Bush talks on the phone with Canadian Prime Minister-elect Stephen Harper, in the Oval Office, Wednesday morning, January 25, 2006.)
But I had to laugh at this Vancouver Sun headline and story, which proves yet again the theory that the liberal media is liberal beyond hope; but not satisfied with that alone, it also helps prove them to be misleading, at best. I hope they’re satisfied with their success.
First, here’s some of the article’s contents:
“The content of Harper’s chat with Bush, which lasted 15 to 20 minutes, was not disclosed.”
“Scott McClellan, the White House communications director, portrayed the chat as upbeat, but said Bush and Harper had agreed to keep details of their conversation private.”
“Harper’s officials were mum about the call from Bush or any other world leader.”
The article’s sub-headline is this:
“Officials mum on the subject as U.S. president speaks to prime minister-designate for 15 to 20 minutes.”
Well naturally from that you can see how they got this headline:
“Harper gets pat on the back from Bush”
He got a pat on the back did he? Is that right. Huh. So you all heard the chat then did you?
No in actual fact, that was quite a stretch, or what most sensible folks call “a lie”, and it was based on the solid foundation of “journalism” that they admittedly knew absolutely NOTHING about what was said.
But it sure makes for great, scary, Harper and Bush are secretly going to join our countries together and kill poor people and gays news content to feed their insatiably anti-conservative throngs of readers that they’ve nurtured and trained through the years!
