While my sense is that the Brits behaved in an absolutely exemplary manner—their people calm and orderly for the most part and their emergency crews as well-rehearsed, slick and professional as can imaginably be, it was one of those rare days when the print media in Canada uses lots of blank ink to try to convey the sense of darkness and foreboding that transpired in the news. And well it should have.
And even though CSIS, our spy agency, reports that over 50 terrorist groups reside and operate in Canada, and the fact that Canada is on Osama bin Laden’s list of countries to try to destroy and is now the only one on his list that has yet to be hit, I’m left with the ominous feeling that Canada is completely ill-prepared.
Not just physically. Yes, after a dozen years of the liberal-left’s abject, treasonous neglect of our national security infrastructure and military—specifically our equipment—it is in a shambles.
But mentally too. As a people, Canadians have allowed themselves to be taught or convinced by liberals to fear “Karl Rove” and “conservatives” and “George Bush” and “homophobes” and “the religious right”—more than Osama bin Laden and terrorists. To fear global warming more than the impending danger to our families traveling in buses. To fear for some concocted lack of “gay rights” rather than deal with the very protection of our borders from attack.
