Whenever you read a news story and the reporter attempts to explain why the Conservatives are attempting to (once again) do something positive and proactive (much to the liberal media’s chagrin), put on a shower cap and a face mask because lots of bull poo will be flying about you.
CTV.ca story:
The Conservatives will ask the provinces Tuesday to help develop a plan to boost ethanol production in an effort to deflect negative criticism that Ottawa won’t meet Canada’s Kyoto accord goals, according to a report.
The Globe and Mail, which I guess is the mysterious “report” referred to above that says it’s “an effort to deflect criticism”, says:
Ottawa — The Conservatives will move today to blunt criticism that they have forsaken the Kyoto accord by asking provinces to help develop a plan to boost ethanol production as part of a made-in-Canada plan to reduce greenhouse gas.
Get splattered? I did! Oh but what’s this?
Experts say ethanol fuel, which is largely derived from corn and agricultural crops, would help reduce greenhouse gas emission. The Conservatives made the initiative an election pledge.
The pooper scooper, I guess.
So is this now an “effort to deflect negative criticism that Ottawa won’t meet Canada’s Kyoto accord goals” as the CTV.ca article says? Did the Conservatives peer into a magical crystal ball and predict this back in December of 2005?
The Globe and Mail is more sheepish. In their story, they don’t mention it was a campaign promise at all. They prefer to cast the Conservatives as being on the defensive. Scurrying about to save face.
It’s their way of reporting. Fair and balanced. They report you decide. Sorry—I mean they report half the story, send poo a-flying, then you decide.
“The Conservatives will move today to blunt criticism…” by, um, deploying a promise made during the election campaign. Good stuff, liberals.
The liberal media must literally feel silly sometimes.
