Washington Post Ombudsman: ‘3 to 1’ Obama Front Page Advantage
Washington Post ombudsman Deborah Howell reviewed how many stories the newspaper put on the front page about John McCain and Barcak Obama over the past ten weeks and discovered a wide gap in favor of Obama, a “disparity,” she declared, “so wide that it doesn’t look good.” Howell, the Washington Bureau chief and editor of Newhouse News from 1990 until 2005, outlined in her weekly Sunday column what she determined: “Democrat Barack Obama has had about a 3 to 1 advantage over Republican John McCain in Post Page 1 stories since Obama became his party’s presumptive nominee June 4. Obama has generated a lot of news by being the first African American nominee, and he is less well known than McCain—and therefore there’s more to report on. But the disparity is so wide that it doesn’t look good.”
…Here, the media still finds reasons—no matter how stupid—to mention Layton and the NDP. And when they can’t think of a reason, Dion. Then Harper (in a bad light).
• Obama still fails to ignite the U.S. voter, despite the media obsession and hilarious bias for him…
Daily Presidential Tracking Poll – Monday, August 18, 2008
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Barack Obama attracting 44% of the vote while John McCain earns 43%. When “leaners” are included, it’s Obama 47% and McCain 46% (see recent daily results).
… Here, Layton still only attracts about 380 voters despite the media and the leftist clerics —the teachers in the public schools— propping that party up all these decades. And the most ineffectual leader in decades, the Liberal Frenchman Stephane Dion, is tied with one of the better leaders in modern Canadian history, Conservative Stephen Harper, for no apparent reason other than the decades of hilarious media bias and the bias in academia and the identical anti-conservative bias now fully entrenched in the government ranks itself after decades of liberalism.
• An idiot I suspect is one of the star commenters at the CBC web site, who calls himself “Red Canada”, who is clearly pissed at me for exposing the commenters at the CBC as among the most radical extreme left-wing nutbars on the internet, continues to slam me with his intellectually bereft bon mots in PTBC blog comments I never approve (on the basis of their being totally inane and intellectually immature, radical, extremist, racist, insane…). His latest (on my vacation blog entry regarding the Abbotsford Airshow):
“what the hell are american bastards doing at a Canada air show? Yankee go home.”
A few unapproved comments prior to that (on my blog entry regarding the response from the PMO after I wrote in protest of the Morgentaler award) it was:
“Good, i hope they abort more babies.”
… So liberals and the left generally are still the “compassionate” and “tolerant” and “moderate” and “nuanced” ones…

Actual front page GlobeandMail.com article—today, a week and a half into the Olympics, with wars going on in the world… — which implies we should care one whit what that ridiculous liberal thinks. Apparently no Trudeaus were available today…
• In one of the best ideas I’ve heard in ages, good Conservative MP Stockwell Day says…
…that a new Conservative government would require prison inmates to work during their incarceration.
“We’d like to see people being required to work if they are in jail. There are too many ways right now for people to avoid that,” Mr. Day told CTV’s Question Period.
“We’re not looking at this in a punitive way. We want to see people, if they’re going to be in jail for a number of years, let’s get them in a training program, an apprentice program, maybe work towards a journeyman’s certificate, some type of occupational standard that, when they finally are released from prison, they have some way of taking care of themselves, rather than doing that illegally.”
…but as if on cue, a liberal know-it-all academic refutes that sound logic…
But Craig Jones, executive director of the John Howard Society of Canada, an advocacy group for inmate reintegration, said this proposal, and the government’s wider approach to crime, represents “a triumph of good politics over good policy.”
“Idleness is the very worst thing inside a prison,” Mr. Jones said. “If you teach a guy to make postal bags, that’s great, but once he gets out, where’s he going to use that?”
…amazingly succeeding in finding a specious negative where one clearly doesn’t exist; and totally conveniently forgetting that nearly every non-incarcerated university student at every liberal arts university in Canada gets their
BS
BA degree in Psychology, with one of the Sociology department areas of study being right up there among their grand mostly taxpayer-paid accomplishments…
• Canada’s Olympic team in 17th place so far, tied with Ethiopia and others. Canadian athletes still think “just being here” is the point, and “we put our heart into it” and “we’re having a great time” are bona fide answers for the fact that we’re just ahead of Kenya in the gold medal standings, Cuba and Belarus each with more total medals than us.
