The Edmonton Sun, not normally a fave, does set out a good lead editorial this morning (unsigned). They call it “Look in the mirror”—which, because the title’s referring to Belinda Stronach is probably redundant—but if you can get past that title you’ll agree as I did that it’s good general advise for liberals. In fact—the entire Liberal Party of Canada should look in a mirror. If they can’t find one big enough, they could grab a banana and stare at it.
In the last paragraph of their editorial, the Edmonton Sun seems to leave the unfortunate impression that they think the Liberals should be swept from power for, well, far fewer reasons than I can find—and probably the least important.
Here’s the first paragraphs:
So Belinda Stronach is going to blow a million dollars worth of hard-earned Canadian taxpayers’ bucks gallivanting around the country this fall trying to figure out why kids these days are so apathetic toward politics.
But rather than having Paul Martin’s precious minister in charge of “democratic renewal” – as opposed to Mauril Beanger, who is Martin’s minister in charge of “democratic reform” – spend all those lonely nights in four-star hotels and suffer long hours of boredom riding on government jets, we’ve got a better idea.
Belinda: Get up in the morning.
Stroll into the bathroom.
Take a good, long look at yourself in the mirror.
There’s the problem.
