Quote of the week: a quip from a liberal to the FAR left

Hat tip to my wife.  (Is that legal?  Well that’s who sent it to me.  So I’m going to go ahead and hat tip her.)

imageBC Health Minister George Abbott wins.  But he should keep his head down.

It happened in Vaughn Palmer’s daily provincial politics column today in the Vancouver Sun (Canwest Global), when he was talking about the BC government’s plans to open the dialogue about health care including the idea of private enterprise getting involved—you know, like in normal, free countries.

See, the Premier and the Health Minister, George Abbott, plan to travel to Europe to check out some of their healthcare systems first hand (because unlike me, they are apparently not yet aware that nearly every country has a better system).

The Liberals have been fielding a lot of criticism about junketeering at taxpayer expense, nonetheless.

In response, Health Minister Abbott has worked up a couple of good lines.

“We need to be open to the possibility that we might learn something outside the walls of the legislature buildings,” he says.

He also remarked that perhaps the New Democrats were upset that the travel schedule did not include Cuba. “I understand that’s their favourite health care jurisdiction,” he cracked.

Another quote for the BC Liberals to keep in mind is this one:  “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”. And this one too: “Provincial governments that operate state-run wholesale and retail liquor stores in competition with their own citizens for profit; and which operate state-run car insurance monopoly companies (with optional towing package!) and state-run ferry systems and who appoint the former chairman of the state-run media (the CBC) to be their Minister of Finance, and more…. shouldn’t glibly talk about Cuba quite so negatively.”

I know that’s a long one.
