Rodger Morrow: “Now, let’s see if I’ve got this straight …”

The reason I say it’s self-deprecating is… well, read his bio and tell me if you’d call your blog This isn’t writing it’s typing if you had his writing history:

Rodger Morrow has some two decades’ experience in business and political communications. In 1975, at the age of 21, he served as a speech writer to President Gerald R. Ford, becoming the youngest person ever to hold such a post. From 1978 until 1986, he was principal speech writer to a series of government and business leaders: Governor Dick Thornburgh of Pennsylvania, David Roderick of USX and John Marous of Westinghouse Electric. Most recently, he served as director of strategic communications for the Otis Elevator Company, a division of United Technologies Corporation.

As an independent writer, Mr. Morrow has written and produced speeches, brochures, advertising, video scripts, annual reports, magazine articles and corporate histories. Today, he owns and manages The Writing Company, a firm based near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that provides writing services and communications consulting to an international clientele.

Mr. Morrow’s copywriting has won two gold Addys and three certificates of merit from the Pittsburgh Advertising Club. His journalism has appeared in the pages of Life, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and Chief Executive magazine. He also contributed two entries (“disanthropy” and “euphonism”) to In a Word, a dictionary of new words solicited by the editors of Harper’s magazine from some of America’s best-known writers and personalities, including William F. Buckley, Jr., Larry King, Ann Landers and Lou Reed.

Mr. Morrow received a B. A. in English from Yale University in 1976. He studied on a Yale fellowship in Paris and at the École Normale SupÃ
