PTBC Newsquips for Thursday

Newsquips Thursday daily briefing —   Astute readers recognize the non-daily nature of daily Newsquips (it’s a little like the non-weekly nature of our PTBC Quote of the Week Award).  This is due to staff shortages at PTBC World Headquarters (located in an undisclosed underground bunker outside of Vancouver, in Non-QuebecOntario).  …  Send bailout stimulus money.

1.  Rush Limbaugh’s been declared the “leader” of the Republicans by Democrats, and yet the Dems have launched a petition against him (seriously) to make him shut up and stop talking.  So that’s weird (in a fascist sort of way).  And the unifier love agent, President Barack Obama, has literally told Republicans not to listen to Rush Limbaugh or his radio show or he won’t be friends with them.  Which isn’t very “unity-ish” or “reachy across the aisl-y”.  Ironically, Obama told Arabs on Arab TV (in his very first media interview) that he told his Middle-East envoy to listen carefully to Arabs and terrorist leaders while on his visit to Arab countries and Israel this week.  See some PTBC coverage here.  …  Anyway, Obama’s utterly bogus specious deceptive and vacuous BS campaign talking points aside, I’ve been trying to keep up with all of this (I’m watching Rush’s radio show online even as I write).  Since he’s the “leader” of the Republicans, Rush has come up with his own “bi-partisan budget proposal” called The Obama-Limbaugh Bipartisan Stimulus Plan of 2009 , which is absolutely excellent.  Rush has listened carefully to Obama and Democrats, reached way across the aisle, and since it is a bi-partisan proposal, it is now up to President Barack Obama to endorse it.  But of course Obama doesn’t listen to the Republican leader (he does listen to terrorists though).  So this will be weird (in a fascist sort of way).  Read Rush’s Wall Street Journal editorial here.  Read more at RushLimbaugh.com here (and join while you’re there so you too can listen and watch his daily radio show).

2.  The Governor of Illinois is a liberal DEMOCRAT.  You’d never know it though.  Watch CBC or CTV and they misinform you by omission of facts, on purpose, since there is utterly no reasonable alternative explanation.  They don’t even include a “(D)” after his name.  They don’t want you to know he’s a Democrat.  Just imagine if he were a Republican.

I want to have enough money to take out a giant newspaper ad to let Canadians know he’s a Democrat, since the media is so full of liberal-left-luvin’ agenda-driving crap that they won’t tell you.

3. Meanwhile, the CTV’s expert reporter, opinionator and pretend economist, their “Ottawa Bureau Chief” (woo—how official and elite-like!  I’m going to call myself Canada’s Northern Hemisphere Bureau Chief and Head Governor of All Get Out!), Bob Fife —or as I like to call him, Bob (“Well Lloyd we all know there are some knuckle-draggers in Mr. Harper’s caucus”) Fife, image  is breathlessly reporting this morning on how Liberal voter support in The Nation Of Quebec is up, according to their latest poll.  Fife—or the guy I’m going to refer to as Knuckle-Head Fife from now on—repeatedly refers to “Liberals”, and “Tories”.  Not GRITS and Tories.  To Knuckle-Head Fife, Liberals are “Liberals”, and Conservatives are “Tories”.  … Later, CTV “Parliamentary Correspondent” (hey!  I want to be Canada’s Parliamentary Chief Rapporteur and Head Bureau Nobby Nob!), Roger Smith, did the same: Liberals and “Tories”.

4.   Speaking of CTV Parliamentary Correspondent (and Chief Raconteur!) Roger Smith in the new era of The Great Ignatieff…  Do you folks remember how the media declared that Stephen Harper is cold and aloof and how vitally important (in a VERY negative sort of way) that was and still is?  WELL NO MORE! No no.  Not now that icy, and certainly aloof, and possibly weird (but oh-so yummy Liberal) Michael Ignatieff is their new benevolent Leader (replacing that oh-so warm and approachable Liberal Frenchman Stephane Dion). Dan Matheson and Roger Smith  Now, being a “good listener” is what’s important.  Being warm and cuddly—it’s so yesterday, baby!

It’s a story about NDP “attack ads” against their man Ignatieff, and therefore CTV Newsnet anchor Dan Matheson races to Ignatieff’s defence and (a) reminds us all that he’s “smart”, and “stern”—so smart and stern that maybe he’s even “intimidating” (to whom, I’m not sure), and asks Smith about Ignatieff’s image in Canada and how he can perfect it, and (b), well actually that’s it.  Just a statement of “fact”, to which Smith was to opine in his erudite Parliamentary Pedagogical Poobah manner:

CTV Newsnet Anchor Dan Matheson: We all know—anyone who even knows his reputation knows he’s a pretty smart guy, he appears to be made of some pretty stern stuff—he’s a little intimidating!  Do you think they’re going to put him coast to coast wearing a nice sweater maybe?! [Mocking Harper…Matheson laughs at his own biased hilarity]

CTV reporter Roger Smith: “…But yeah I mean he does have this, he-ee he does have this uh reputation as a very smart man, well traveled, commentator, journalist, academic um now you know how good is he at retail politics?  Uh that remains to be seen ya know the whole baby kissing routine, uh Stephen Harper obviously has had that reputation as being a little aloof and cool, and you know, I mean do Canadians really WANT their politicians—their leaders—to be warm and cuddly—I’m not so sure!  Pierre Trudeau wasn’t warm and cuddly he was certainly well-respected by many Canadians, so uh we’ll just have to see how far Mr. Ignatieff goes uh in terms of trying to soften his image to make himself a little more approachable certainly he seems uh so far to be a very good listener he’s not one of those politicians that talks down to people on a one-on-one basis he seems to be a very good listener which many politicians aren’t!”

Well that certainly helps reform Ignatieff’s image as a corollary to “news” about those nefarious new NDP attack ads against their man Ignatieff.

image5. “SINKING SONY” — That’s how an economic doom ‘n gloom ‘n recession-promoting media newscast characterizes the fact that Sony’s profits are down in the last quarter—to $115 MILLION.  Ipso facto, the company is (quote-unquote) “sinking”.  Yes it’s “SONY SINKING”.  Golly.  I just can’t figure out this consumer pessimism thing, and all the fear about spending, and why companies are laying off workers, and what not.  Hey maybe the government needs to spend more money or something!  Yeah.  That’s the ticket.  It’s certainly not the media.

6. The, um, hello, please pay attention, liberal and Democratic Party Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich has been impeached and kicked out of the Governorship of the state.  By a unanimous vote.  Nobody voted in his favor.  Not even a Democrat

7.   …More coming through the day.  Keep checking…
