PMO doesn’t even know how to SPELL British Columbia

Those of us in BC have long known that our province is still thought of as some sort of funky experiment by our betters—the superior elites in Toronto and Ottawa and of course Montreal;  and that they are not quite sure yet how that whole “British Columbia” thing will all work out.

But when the Prime Minister’s Office can’t even spell the name of the province in an official Canada Day proclamation —choosing instead to spell Columbia with an “o-m” (as in the country Colombia) instead of with a “u-m” the way it is actually spelled—  well that’s just awesome.

And have a real nice Kanadah day.

STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER ON CANADA’S 141st BIRTHDAY

June 30, 2008
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement marking Canada Day:

“…2008 is a year of historic anniversaries: the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City by Canada’s first governor, Samuel de Champlain; the 250th anniversary of the establishment of representative government in Nova Scotia, making Canada one of the world’s first democracies; and the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Colombia, ensuring our country would one day stretch from sea to sea…”

By the way, Washington D.C. (District of Columbia) is also spelled our way too.  Just a heads-up for you all in Oddawa.
