Over the CTV News Channel banner reading “LIBERAL LEADER SPEAKS”, which reflects not just the obvious fact at hand since we’re watching him speak even as the banner informs us he is speaking, it also reflects the reverence with which the CTV holds their leader. If He speaks, we will be there, recording and broadcasting —live —every word! BEHOLD! LIBERAL LEADER SPEAKS! ALL RISE!
For my part, I couldn’t decide from this buffet of possible blog headlines available to me:
• Liberal leader sounds like an abject big-government, nanny-state socialist; and a boring whiny one at that
• Quixotic Liberal leader can’t let go of the past; the good times of the 2008 Obama campaign
• Liberal leader takes his cues from Daily Kos and Huffington Post blog entries written by idiots —from six months ago
• Liberal leader sounds like brainless 22-year-old lefty blogger pumping out cheap Sarah Palin hate lines in his momma’s basement
• Or the one I went with.
In that speech just now to the Toronto Board of Trade, in which Ignatieff lamented over how the state is not “investing” (socialist code for government taking cash out of your pocket, where they think you’ll blow it on “beer and popcorn” instead of your family and theirs, and giving it instead to those they prefer to have it—and they do know better than you who should have your money!) in “green technologies” (cult liberal-left-speak describing what business has been doing on its own for two decades) as much as either “President Obama”, or even the State of Alaska. He said that therefore, not only is “Stephen Harper” falling behind Obama, he’s falling behind Sarah Palin. (And no, not Governor Palin)
It was so contrived, so poorly delivered, so picayune in its intellectual depth and meaning, it’s a wonder there wasn’t a young fella holding up a sign behind him saying “LAUGH NOW!” Or that CTV didn’t change its banner to one reading “IGNATIEFF’S A RIOT!”
What a zinger! Good thing his teleprompter reminded him LAUGH LINE: ALLOW TIME FOR CROWD TO LAUGH THEIR BUTTS OFF. THEREFORE, TAKE SIP OF WATER AT THIS TIME! (See photo capture of that exact moment after he let loose the hilarity. His sip of water took longer than the pathetic giggles from those few brainless idiots in the crowd who actually did laugh).
Too bad he can’t let go of the past, and too bad he can’t stop personally insulting good people for no reason at all, just to get a cheap, low-class laugh out of people by sniping at a now private citizen who has in both her private life and professionally striven to do nothing but good for the world and still strives to do more. Moreover, how intellectual! How on-point! How mature! Way to avoid the personal attacks and insults, Mr. Maturity!
Mostly though, throughout his exceedingly boring, whiny, automaton, teleprompter-read speech, he sounded exactly like a big nanny-state socialist who yearns to grow government even bigger, and control your life even more, and that of all business more still. It could just as well been a speech by Hugo Chavez or Jack Layton. He doesn’t trust citizens or the businesses they run to do anything on their own, or he believes they’re utterly incapable of acting without the guidance of the state, and manifestly him (he’s never run a business and has no clue, but he’s a liberal, you know, he knows). Government must lead the way. Government must “invest” in people and business. Government must show how it’s done.

OK here’s the place at PTBC where we pause to allow you to barf just a little bit in your mouth, then take a sip of water. OK, resume.

Second, by investing in our most precious asset, Canadians themselves and the people as much as communities… And third, by being more present where there’s money to be made: India, China, and other emerging economies! …”
Liberals believe governments grow economies. Others who believe in freedom and free markets and capitalism and who aren’t socialists know better: that people and businesses grow economies, as long as they aren’t stifled by big nanny-state governments and their incessant meddling in the market place. And smart people know that free-markets and freedom means that government helps grow the economy best when it gets out of the way of the people. Unleash the genius of the free market, and its entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit will take off.
Liberals believe government and taxation and central planning by bureaucracies and committees and nobs in Ottawa is the answer to everything. They simply couldn’t be more wrong.
So here’s your banner: “LIBERALS COULDN’T BE MORE WRONG FOR CANADA —HERE’S PROOF”
