Media trying to figure itself out; and failing in effort

PTBC reader Heather sent me this online poll from radio station CKNW in Vancouver, which made me laugh in light of my posting, yesterday, of the latest cable news ratings in the U.S.

CNN simply has no clue, do they?

I also liked this article appearing today at rival CKWX, which hopefully portends a watershed moment in the liberal media (it won’t be because they adore depraved Hollywood liberals way too much).

You won’t see Paris Hilton in US magazine this week; editors have had enough

June 26, 2007 – 6:51 pm

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Paris Hilton gets out of jail Tuesday and she won’t be on the cover of US Weekly on Friday?

How, short of the Apocalypse, is this possible? “When it came down to it, the staff and I felt what I believe a lot of people in America are feeling. Which is just enormous Paris fatigue,” US Weekly editor Janice Min said Tuesday.

As a result, Hilton not only won’t be on the cover, there won’t even be a mention of her in the magazine.

“I don’t think,” Min joked, “we even mention the city of Paris.”

That was no easy task, she said, adding US Weekly editors had to comb carefully through every beauty story and every fashion item to make sure there wasn’t an offhand mention of the hotel heiress somewhere.

The Associated Press put in place a similar Hilton moratorium for a week earlier this year, just to see what would happen.

As it turned out, the celebutante didn’t do much that was of interest to anyone that week. Certainly she didn’t get out of jail and get chased across town by a pack of Hilton-hungry photographers.

Still, Min expects her magazine will do just fine without her. Hilton, she said, has become such a mainstream media staple “that in many ways her time with US Weekly has moved on.”

So look instead for an US Weekly cover photo Friday of Tom Cruise’s baby and inside the magazine a dozen pages of other Hollywood babies.

Which raises the question, what would US Weekly do if Paris Hilton had a baby?

“That will elevate her, probably, back onto the cover,” Min said with a laugh.

US Weekly will stop their moratorium the moment Paris Hilton says something negative about George Bush or the Iraq war.

…Or something positive about Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

On Tuesday, our Ann Coulter graciously accepted an invitation to appear on the liberals’ MSNBC’s “Hardball” program starring shrill liberal brain bunion Chris Mathews.  Once again, see our cable news ratings chart—you’ll find Chris Mathews’ show at the very bottom.  Why?  Not because he has guests like Ann Coulter, but because he doesn’t.  This Ann Coulter interview is an anomaly—she’s normally only seen on Fox News Channel, where they allow conservatives to speak.  My bet is that the Ann Coulter installment will be his highest rated show in months or years.  He’s at the bottom because of things like what he did on this “interview”: a hilariously blatant ambush—a hit job—by Mathews and his crew upon his “guest” Ann Coulter.

You see, as pure luck and nothing but luck would have it, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards’ WIFE called the radio show while Ann Coulter was being interviewed.  She just happened to find out Ann Coulter was going to be on, we’re to believe, and happened to have Chris Mathews’ radio show phone number.  Actually, as Chris Mathews even admitted, live, on air, it was a pre-arranged ambush, for he told the audience and a surprised Ann Coulter that he allowed this phone call to take place. And the fact that Mizzz Edwards had a long, prepared text blasting Ann Coulter… was simply fortunate happenstance.  Ann Coulter was clearly put off by the blatant setup, but kept her cool as usual.

Mizzz Edwards proceeded (with Mathews’ blessing) to bash Ann Coulter for her meaniepants remarks about her poor helpless hubby all the time.  Mizzz Edwards wants Miss Coulter to stop saying things!  She went on and on and on and on and on about it for about ten minutes as Miss Coulter patiently sat there listening.  Miss Coulter then deftly responded, of course, mostly laughing it off.  Chris Mathews constantly interrupted her attempt to respond.

Another pure liberal-left media ambush and hack job against a conservative. And that’s what Americans and Canadians are sick and tired of.

Watch a video clip.

Watch the end where the intrepid Chris Mathews asks Miss Coulter the important questions of the day:  like why she says something in her book GODLESS about Hillary Clinton’s chubby legs.  And about Monika Lewinsky being chubby.

After that, read our columnist Ann Coulter weekly columns here.

UPDATE:

Mathews’ show today featured Mr. and Mizzz Edwards.  Shocka.

Chris Matthews Continues Coulter Pile-On

Posted by Geoffrey Dickens on June 27, 2007 – 17:58.

Chris Matthews followed-up his, now infamous, staging of the Ann Coulter vs. Elizabeth Edwards throwdown by inviting on John Edwards to join his wife in the pile-on of the conservative columnist. On tonight’s Hardball, Edwards condemned Coulter’s “hate-mongering” but Matthews never brought up the fact that Edwards’ own staffers spewed some pretty hateful | things, or that Matthews on the very same show compared conservative students to violent inbred hicks. While Matthews did mention Edwards campaign has used Coulter to raise money, most of the interview was full of softballs.
