Liberal-friendly Canadian media gushes over….. Martin and Liberal Party

Extra! Extra!  Read all about it!  Liberal media creates a poll to create news and kiss liberal arse!

In their “news story” in which they opined about their own poll which they commissioned, the objective fair and balanced very liberal-friendly Globe and Mail and CTV (both owned by liberal-friendly Bell Globemedia) waxed gushingly about the good fortunes of the Liberal Party and Paul Martin.

Their poll provided them with a rather strange contrarian result considering that the last few polls that I have seen have shown a positive popularity growth trend and a close race for the Conservative Party, and they had this to “report” (as “news”):

Liberal support growing despite scandals: poll
CTV.ca News Staff

The federal Liberals appear to be emerging from their various storms of political scandal relatively unscathed. According to a new poll voters would re-elect the party today, if given a chance.

According to a CTV/Globe and Mail poll conducted by The Strategic Counsel, if Canadians were called to the polls today they would give the Liberals 38 per cent of the vote.

The federal Conservatives would come in a distant second with just 25 per cent of ballots. The NDP would finish with 15 per cent, just one percentage point higher than the Bloc Quebecois.

It’s good news for Prime Minister Paul Martin, as his favourability rating shows Canadians are warming up to him.  […]

I especially liked that last line.  “Good news”…. “favourability”…… “Canadians are warming up to him”!  How delightful.

Remember what I alluded to —about Stephen Harper’s Conservative Party heading upward in at least the last three national polls (just the ones that I can think of off the top of my head)?  Here’s how they portray that in their objective “news report”:

The news is not so good for Opposition Leader Stephen Harper, however, as his negative ratings continue to grow—up eight percentage points since May to 58 per cent.

And if you’ll allow me to don my tinfoil hat again for just a minute, in another imaginative conspiratorial twist of logic I find that increasingly, the media is calling the Conservative Party “the Tories”, even while always referring to the Liberal Party as “the Liberals” in the same story.  Not “the Grits”, mind you—“the Liberals”.  I am aware of the history of the words, thanks, please reserve your email rants for something even more conspiratorial like “Harper has a hidden agenda”.

But here’s an example among the countless examples, using that same “news report” as above:

In English Canada, the Liberals hold a 10-point lead over the Tories. The two parties were tied in the last election.

Is “Conservative” too long a word for you at Liberal*Vision?  Does it help the Conservative “brand” too much if you keep repeating the word over and over like you do “the Liberals” always together with, for example, “…are not to blame…”?

They call them “the Tories” as well as “the Conservatives” in the same story.  Are they running out of typewriter ribbon at the big CTV.ca? Perhaps they should shorten “Liberal” to “Grits”.  Hey I know—why not call the Conservative Party “the cons”?  That would warm the cockles of their hearts wouldn’t it?  Then possibly to save more typewriter ribbon cashola they could call the Liberals “the Lies”.  Just suggestions!  The NDP would, of course, remain “the NDP”, rather than “the Dippers” or the “DipSticks” because I’m quite sure they don’t want to confuse that segment of electorate any further.
