I wanted to start out by saying “this is hard to believe!” but alas, it’s just not hard to believe anymore.

It’s based on a leaked memo. But this memo sounds like a directive to be fair and balanced in one’s reporting, to me, and to adhere to one of the news journalists’ important doctrines, which is to be skeptical, rather than a directive instructing reporters to toe an ideological line:
