Is this Iran? Canadians can’t buy U.S. satellite services from U.S.-based Dish Network or Direct TV

Fox News Channel is the best channel available in Canada What kind of a country bans channels like Fox News Channel, as the big huge government of Canada through its regulator of what we’re allowed to see on TV and listen to on the radio and in what proportion of Canadian content and language and at what time of day, the CRTC, did, and which unbanned it only after immense pressure from the likes of PTBC, and only after the regulator actually seriously considered imposing censorship restrictions on it such as for Al-Jazeera, on the basis that it might allow or even speak to conservative values?

What kind of country bans its citizens from spending their own money as they see fit and buying satellite TV services from any company from any free, non-enemy country, like America?  Or are Americans our enemy?  (And if so, don’t liberals favor doing utterly nothing about them except appeasing them?!)

Aren’t we “multicultural”?

Why does the government in Canada control its citizens and ban them from spending their own money on their own choice of satellite TV services from whatever American company offers them?

What kind of government tries to impose a state-created “Canadian Culture” by government decree, using all manner of social engineering techniques and rules and regulations and state protectionism, much like in Iran, instead of simply allowing an organic, Canadian culture to flourish naturally?  Aren’t liberals all about the “organic” stuff?

Why is it illegal — criminal — and punishable with a jail term — for Canadians to buy Dish Network satellite services in Canada?  Why do Canadians face the threat of criminal records and fines or sentences to a federal penitentiary for buying and subscribing to DirectTV satellite service or Dish Network from the U.S.?  What kind of country would do that?

A few years ago, Liberal Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps personally wrote a letter to Solicitor General Lawrence MacAulay requesting RCMP enforcement of the liberals’ Supreme Court of Canada division’s verdict affirming the criminality of Canadian folks getting U.S. satellite services.  Copps stated that the industry was “extremely frustrated by what it sees as lack of enforcement action.”  (Shelia Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage, in a letter to Solicitor General Lawrence MacAulay. Ottawa. Oct. 8, 2002.)

This isn’t Iran, is it?

Ask the Minister of Defense and TV, Peter MacKay (), …and the CRTC, and perhaps your MP why we can’t spend our own money as we see fit and watch what we want, when we want to.

Or ask someone in Iran why they do it there, and then contrast and compare with Canada and its Iranian-style laws.  Here’s an Iranian address for someone in the Iran government:
