Once in a while I like highlighting some of the blog comments made here by grass roots, positive conservative Canadians —the ones who have had it up to here and are ready to launch into action in an aggressive way. People like this is what our Canada needs.
So here’s a comment by a regular participant here, who made this comment in my blog entry called “Liberals run amok. As trained by conservatives”. The commenter registered himself here as “Proud Reformer”.
I have become a Vocal Conservative after almost giving up.
In 1993, I joined the Reform Party. I found it open and welcoming and very democratic. I became a Riding Association President and ran for the Party’s National Council. For the 2000 election, I was Official Agent for an Alliance MP.
I lost my innocence during that election. I watched as Elinor Caplan called me Racist, Homophobic, Anti-Semitic, Holocaust Denier because I didn’t become a Liberal. Standing behind her was a smiling Chretien who must have agreed with her. I didn’t hear Martin speak up on my behalf.
In Vancouver, Hedi Fry stated that Stockwell Day’s religion was an insult to all other religions. Standing behind her was a smiling Chretien – also with no peep out of Martin.
After that, I gave up. I now knew why less than 2% of Canadians get involved with a political party. In the 2004 Election, my wife literally dragged me down to vote.
Now, I won’t let Liberals pretend to speak for me. Now I’m speaking up. When my friends start bashing Bush, I speak up. When my friends start bashing Harper, I speak up. I get many startled looks, mouths hanging open, and that makes me smile.
Makes me smile, too. And it’s things like making this blog entry that make my feel good when I hit my ENTER key and let this stuff fly. Sometimes I even snicker, just a little, because I know it works to good effect.
