Associated Press report on Ann Coulter is a total lie?

Maybe they’re just mistaken.  Yeah that’s it.  Maybe they’ll offer a correction in the morning.  Or maybe they’re trying to demonize Ann Coulter again.

I blogged about Ann Coulter’s latest run-in with the liberal media earlier today, but that’s not where it ends.  It doesn’t end until liberals have had the last word, as we know.

First watch the video, since that’s what
the mendacious (?) reporter is reporting about:

Now the story, in which Associated Press tells lies, I think, in my opinion.  Let’s review:

Coulter attacks help Edwards raise cash

By NEDRA PICKLER,
Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 41 minutes ago

WASHINGTON – Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said Wednesday that conservative author Ann Coulter’s attacks are personally hurtful and it’s important that he respond to them.

While Edwards made his first comments to The Associated Press in response to Coulter’s suggestion that she wished he would be “killed in a terrorist assassination plot,” his campaign was also using her remarks to bring in donations in the final week before his next fundraising deadline.

As I see it, that’s a lie.  Ann Coulter never said that, nor “suggested” it.  Review the video yourself again!.

She was clearly pointing out the liberal media hypocrisy and referring to a remark made—not by her—but by another of the liberal media’s favorite sons, comedian and talk show host Bill Maher, who said on his program that if Vice President Cheney were killed in a terrorist attack, less people would be dead today, or some such nutroot moonbattery.  And she told the ABC morning show host on Monday, in answer to his question about jokingly referring to presidential candidate John Edwards as a “faggot” (itself a remark made not by her but by a Hollywood actor who was subsequently sent into rehab and then fired)  that she’ll be sure to instead say in the future that she hopes Edwards simply gets blown up in a terrorist plot—that way, the media won’t criticize her, just as they didn’t when yummy Bill Maher said that about Vice President Dick Cheney.

Ann Coulter said:

“But about the same time, you know, Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack. So I’ve learned my lesson. If I’m gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.”

Apparently the mainstream liberal media is full of lies and deceit, and is totally hypocritical and utterly unreliable as an honest source of news.

We’re not done.  Then as I see it, they lie some more in their story:

It’s not the first time Coulter has given the Edwards campaign a financial boost. In March, she called Edwards a “faggot” and the campaign used video of the comment to help raise $300,000 before the end of the first quarter.

As I see it, that’s a lie.  She did not call him a “faggot”.  She merely made reference to what a Hollywood actor said on the set one day and joked that if she said it, she’d have to go into rehab.  That’s because after the Hollywood actor said it, he was sent to “rehab” (as if he were insane); and then was recently fired from the show.  She never called Edwards a faggot. She said:

“I was going to have a—a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word “faggot,” so, I’m—so, kind of at an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards. So, I think I’ll just conclude here and take your questions.”

Then they repeat their previous lie:

The campaign has sent two e-mails to supporters this week, asking them to send donations to defy her attacks and help Edwards meet his goal of raising $9 million in the second quarter ending Saturday. The first e-mail from campaign adviser Joe Trippi showed a clip of Coulter on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” where she said Monday that she wished Edwards would be killed by terrorists.

Amazing.

Then they lie some more:

When Coulter appeared Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” Elizabeth Edwards called in to ask Coulter to stop making personal attacks on her husband. The exchanged deteriorated, with Coulter shouting over Mrs. Edwards and demanding that the campaign stop using her name to raise money if they want her to stop personal attacks.

That’s a hideous lie.  Listen/watch the exchange yourself in my blog entry here.

Then in their “news” story, they go on quoting Edwards and bolstering his deceitful case, and they conclude by providing readers with… the web site of candidate John Edwards, for further reading.

Here’s some “further reading”:

UPDATE:

Just saw CNN’s Glenn Beck show, who had Ann Coulter on as a guest, and having reviewed the same videos as I provided above, made it perfectly clear that Ann is right, AP is wrong.

Perhaps ironically to some, I also just saw Fox News Channel’s Shepard Smith’s news hour (runs at same time), and he simply repeated the AP line—i.e., he got it dead wrong.
