Last week, the charred body of 46-year-old Barbara Galway of Almonte, Ontario was found on a ski trail. She was killed by an Iranian refugee who was earlier in jail—but released—for robbing several banks in Canada, taking hostages, and assault.
But Canada once again subjects itself to United Nations standards (it’s a John Kerry patented “global test”!), and the result is robbery, assault, hostage-taking, and now the death of a Canadian.
He was ordered to be deported while in jail because he was obviously a threat to Canada. But the robber/killer/assaulter/hostage-taker, Allen Tehrankari, came to Canada in 1988 and qualified for refugee protection under UN rules because of the dangers he faced back home in Iran. Apparently the UN—and in this case Iranians—trumps Canada and Canadians, just as the liberals would have it.
OTTAWA (CP) – A refugee gets into a shootout during a brazen daylight bank robbery in 1992, takes hostages, tries to crash a police barricade and ends up with a 12-year prison sentence and a deportation order.
By all rights, Allen Tehrankari and Canada should have parted ways long ago. But Tehrankari was never deported, and he now finds himself back in jail and facing a charge of first-degree murder in the death of his sister-in-law.
“It’s very, very troubling, very disturbing when one considers what this guy has been up to since he’s been in Canada,” said Peter MacKay, Conservative critic for the Canadian Border Agency, which handles deportations.
“It’s the kind of scenario that just leaves Canadians shaking their heads in wonder and frustration and wondering what on earth is our Immigration Department doing?”
This sentence is where it starts to make sense to liberals:
“Removing a protected person is a very complex process that has a very high threshold,” Cantlon said.
Liberals would cite this fact as a good feature of Canada’s policy, inasmuch as many, many government lawyers and sundry civil servants (unionized!) would have to be involved in the process of having this murderer sent packing.
