Canada, actually: April 19 2006

For the 900th time, here’s the latest picture of what actual Canadians choose to watch on TV despite the efforts of decades of liberal-left governments and their censors and regulatory bodies and policies and mandates and sponsorships and cultural decrees and Canadian content rules and other such complete and utter nonsense in their effort to seed and nurture a government-created “Canadian culture” rather than letting citizens develop their own culture like they do in free countries.

…And despite the persistent lectures and snooty smug protestations from among the liberal anti-American set who love to pretend and try to convince you that Canadians value things that are completely different than those nasty Americans.

This time, I give you the top-30 shows.  I do that because for the first time in memory, the state-run CBC shows up more than once in the top-30.  It’s amazing when the state-run media even shows up once, because whatever they are doing there, it is nearly always utterly ignored by the vast majority of Canadians, notwithstanding their tax dollars funding that liberal-left anti-conservative biased propaganda machine to the tune of one BILLION dollars PER YEAR, and after having funding it as such for decades.

But alas, it’s only for its Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, which thanks to your tax dollars, they bought the right to broadcast, having won a bidding war (using your tax dollars) against private citizens and their broadcast businesses.  Additionally, it’s only so popular this week because the playoffs are upon us and there is some heightened interest (not by me, I can assure you) in it.

Other than that, as is always the case, the one Canadian-made show, Corner Gas, which I really enjoy, and which was created by private citizens and on the privately-owned CTV network, is still in the top-30, though further down than usual.  And the news that Canadians watch is brought to you not by your government and broadcast on the state-run media, but on private networks, with the CTV newscast once again being the winner by far.
