I’ve been reading Michael Tracey’s Substack since he started it, and today’s is another goodie. I highly suggest you subscribe to it — and even for free, you get the good stuff I pasted below — but you’ll eventually want to be a paid subscriber too (at a mere $5 USD/mth).
You’ve seen me write about this point before: how amazingly similar the left’s talking points all are on any given day, about any given issue really, but especially those big, flashy, newsy ones that might happen to advance a leftist, progressive, or woke cause. Newspaper reporters and anchors, columnists, politicians, corporate idiots, and then finally even your cab driver — all saying the same thing — blurting out the same “hot take” — about something newsy. It’s almost as if there were a advisory coming out the New York Times, the Washington Post, Democratic Party HQ, or all three working in concert, indicating to all interested parties the “proper” (and most politically useful, and most effective from a marketing standpoint) public response to every situation (always somehow steeped in the promotion of wokeness, leftism, progressivism, etc., again quite amazingly!).
But to help prove the point with such ferocity such that even your cab driver would have to take notice, Michael outdid himself today. Reflecting on the reactions to this week’s jury conviction of police officer Derek Chauvin, and how so many politicians and corporate sheep all responded the same way, he assembled the epic list below. At the risk of overquoting him today (did I mention you should subscribe to his Substack?!), this is a truly useful bit of work:

It reminds me of the old stock market warning. When your cab driver starts talking about how great the market is doing and that you should invest in ABC, it’s time to dump your stocks.
