24 Hours in Liberal Canadian media

These are just examples of two media news items out of the many that are made available every day in Canada of course, informing our nation in their own, very, very special way.

Here’s a video I made of two liberalvision reports—one from last evening, and one from this morning (complete with my virtual yelling at the TV thing of course!)

One is from Mike Duffy’s show on CTV Newsnet, the other with Don Newman on the state-run CBC division of the Liberal Party

UPDATE:  Video flick removed due to threat from CBC

Click to watch  Let’s review the tape!

Here’s a brief synopsis but do watch the video since it took forever to make:

ON THE CTV SHOW:
Oliver just got over gleaming and talking breathlessly (literally) about the Liberals’ new “star” candidate—Marc Garneau (who rode in the U.S. Space Shuttle).  Oliver said that Garneau is someone whom he said he has “special affection for”, and who is “a terrrific candidate”, and whom he called “a Canadian hero” and “there aren’t very many in politics” and “untouchable”,  when, possibly because the word “hero” perked him up, Mike Duffy asked about the Conservatives’ newest candidate—the great Canadian hero who blew the whistle on the whole sponsorship scandal, the civil servant named Alan Cutler

But Duffy was admittedly distracted by something going on near him and when asking a question of the CTV reporter Oliver, about this new candidate Cutler, who Oliver has already dismissed as “a good ‘buy’ for them [the Conservatives]”, when addressing Oliver he inadvertently refers to the Liberals as “you”.  “You’re not worried…”, he said, before being distracted and starting over, correcting himself and asking “Should the Liberals be worried…..”

After that answer, Duffy, getting off that brief 20-second ever-so-annoying talk about good Conservative candidates,  asks about potential new Liberal material again.  But Oliver seems to almost tread into the deep end and spills his guts, revealing how totally objective and balanced he can be counted on being, at least on one file, the Iraq War and any involvement Canada ever has in that.  The new Liberal “hopeful”, Michael Ignatieff, made the wrong conclusion in Iraq, apparently, said Oliver, who is apparently a war expert and world affairs genius, (Ignatieff favored it, which is in actual fact the right conclusion);  a war, he continued, “which so many of us bitterly opposed…”, he said, and furthermore that “if Jean Chretien never does anything else as long as he lives, I’ll always thank him for that one”.

Duffy doesn’t help the objectivity case when, again to Oliver, he says things like “You were close to Trudeau…”; and later,  “your good friend Bill Graham [current Liberal Defense Minister]…

THEN THE CBC SHOW
Don Newman brings up a big matter brought up in the House by a Conservative MP, the insinuation of which is that of possible collusion between the media, specifically Canwest Global (owner of CTV and Globe and Mail), and the Liberals.  Reporter Susan Bonner dismisses this and all media bias as a “bee in the bonnet” of Conservatives, and then alludes to a remark made in the House by a Liberal about it being a “crock of Horsefeathers”.
