Welfare Fraud in Desertion

The promised influx of refugees from the United States after the Bush-Chaney rout of the Democrats was a no show.  They obviously reviewed their prospects in our northern gulag and determined their chances of survival in a Republican controlled America were quite a bit better than they had expected.  After all, not too many Americans would be willing to ditch better economic prospects and emigrate to Canada.

However, this is not true across the board.  Remember the brain drain when our best and brightest were heading over to the United States for better prospects?  What did we get in return?  It seems that we are getting their welfare bums, cheats and frauds not to mention their dope peddlers and other derelicts of their society.  Just the way our Liberal government wants them: a loyal Liberal voting block.  Not at all the kind of immigrants Canada wishes to attract.  We have our own home grown versions of these in plentiful abundance.

Just like in Canada, many in the United States assume that the government coffer is their personal expense account.  Every government run program can be manipulated for an undeserved handout.

The United States military provides signing bonuses and college and university funding as incentives for recruits who sign up for a four year period.  That is well and good and in fact laudable.  The problem is they have become a target of the welfare bums, cheats and frauds.  The scoundrels sign up, do their basic training, grab the signing bonus, enroll in a college and take off as soon as their ticket to Afghanistan or Iraq arrives.  The free money, free food, free housing, free education and all you have to do show up and do some routine exercises which are good for you anyway.

God forbid they have to go to Afghanistan or Iraq to do some real work.  The first thing they do when called up is hightail it Canada.  There are an estimated 100 deserters in Canada at present.

As soon as they infiltrate our borders they apply refugee status.  Being granted refugee status in Canada is like winning the welfare lottery’s jackpot.  You are now entitled to free healthcare, subsidized housing, free money, social assistance, unemployment insurance and a host of other benefits and amenities for just sitting on their haunches and dawdling.  And you are not even required to perform any compulsory exercises apart from sticking your hand out for a handout.  Not only do they want our money, they want our sympathy too.

Their claims are laughable at best.

Jeremy Hinzman, one of the deserters, claims that he will face the death penalty in the United States.  Commentators from CTV and the CBC agree.  Contrary to Canadian perception the United States has not sentenced any military personnel to death for desertion since World War II.  The usual sentence is a dishonorable discharge after a court martial though a five year incarceration would be well deserved.  There is no doubt that the Hinzman claim has more to do craving unearned sympathy from the Canadian left than the facts as they pertain to reality.

Another claim is that they did not know that they would be in the fighting business.  It seems that Hinzman did not realize that he was in the fighting business until he heard the chant of soldiers marching to the mess hall.  “Train to kill, to kill we will.”  That is when he realized the United States Army was in the fighting business.  He was a paratrooper in 82nd Airborne Regiment no less.  So let me get this right.  When they were in boot camp and they had that M-16 in their hand and were ordered to shoot what the hell were they thinking of?  Pretending to play cowboys and Indians?

I guess that is not so incredulous if one considers the Canadian military brass.  They realized only last month that the Canadian military was in the business of killing.  What did our generals think their job was all these years?

All this plays right into the hands of the anti-war, anti-gun and anti-American movement here at home.  These cowards have become instant celebrities with the not so intellectual leftist elite.  Of course, if you cast your reasoning aside you can accept any ridiculous excuse as good and valid.  This is exactly what the left in Canada counts on.  They require us to set logic and reason aside and accept some socialist narrative not based on reality.  So it is not at all amazing that the Canadian left considers Hinzman a war hero.  This is perfect application of the fallacy called the stolen concept.

Deserters lack the cardinal virtue of fortitude.  Fortitude is that Thomist virtue better known as courage; a firmness and steadfastness of will to perform our obligations despite obstacles.  It suppresses inordinate fear and curbs recklessness.  Canada has had a long history of mollycoddling cowards and deadbeats, those that least display the virtue of fortitude.  The only heroes the left consider acceptable are those that do not exhibit any virtues at all.

Each of these individuals breeched their contract which they entered into voluntarily.  They were not conscripted or coerced in any way.  After the military satisfied their end of the bargain these swindlers breeched theirs.  They never had any intention of serving their country or fulfilling the contract.  Not once have any of these reprobates offered to pay restitution for the fraud committed against the U.S. government under false pretences.

It is time we booted these cowardly vagrants and crooks out of Canada for good.
