We were wacked by a GIANT tsunami! (OK well we could have been)

Last night, after our local news, while my wife and I were watching Fox News Channel because it’s by far the best and most worthwhile channel to watch, we heard that the tsunami warning for the west coast (California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia)—was downgraded.

Apparently our crack BC government tsunami warning team is a little under the weather so to speak because we heard about it only on Fox News Channel.

Nonetheless…

VANCOUVER (CP) – British Columbia’s solicitor general praised the quick reaction of emergency services to a sudden tsunami warning on Tuesday, saying the province is ready for a disaster.

“Within half an hour of there being a possibility a wave could hit, 26 communities on the coast of Vancouver Island were contacted to make sure they were moving on their plans,” Rich Coleman said in Victoria on Wednesday.

That’s funny—local media didn’t inform me—Fox News Channel did.  After it was over.

Oh… here’s the official explanation:

Coleman said there could have been a glitch in notifying media outlets and that the entire response effort would be reviewed.

“We’re going to do a post mortem on that. The concern coming out of this is the broader communication to major media. We’re going to look at how that could be improved.”

That’s government!  Wal*Mart is more on the ball when they need to announce a price cut on bras.  EVERYbody hears about that!

Luckily, the tsunami, when it hit our shores, wasn’t huge….

Luckily, the wave that eventually hit Tuesday night was only two centimetres high.

Two centimeters is less than a ripple in my coffee cup. That doesn’t stop Wal*Mart of course.  Saving us 14 cents on a bra seems like a biggie to them.  Some things are just more important than other things.  And some things just work better than other things.
