Was Conservative Grewal bribed? Or did he try to launch a coverup?

There’s more that needs to be uncovered when it comes to the Grewal story.  His allegation that the Liberals approached him and tried to bribe him to move over to the Liberals is denied by the Liberals, of course.  But given my druthers, I’d investigate this more thoroughly.  I’m not sure who to trust—if anybody at all.  As I insinuated yesterday, there are sellers and there are buyers.  But the fact is, you can be both.

I smell an onion.

Grewal sought a deal to halt investigations, Liberals say

B.C. Conservative MP Gurmant Grewal asked that two independent investigations into his actions be called off in exchange for his defection from the Conservative party to the Liberals, two senior government officials said Thursday.

“I can confirm that Grewal requested the complaints that had been forwarded to the ethics commissioner and the RCMP be halted,” said Adele Blanchard, press secretary for Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh.

“Our understanding was his original request was to get those investigations stopped,” added Stephen Heckbert, spokesman for Immigration Minister Joe Volpe.

“He was making requests that you can’t make,” Heckbert added, explaining Volpe denied the request.

Grewal, MP for Newton-North Delta, is currently the subject of an investigation by the ethics commissioner because of a personal guarantee he had been asking constituents to sign before he would help them get visitor visas for family members who wanted to travel to Canada.

Grewal maintains he has done nothing wrong by asking for the guarantees, and has said he has not received or solicited any money, or had any bonds posted to him personally, as part of what he was doing.

Volpe, who in April asked the ethics commissioner to begin an investigation into Grewal’s use of the unorthodox guarantee system, has also passed information about the case to the RCMP, though police will not confirm whether an official investigation has been opened.
