Who cares if “Dion claims victory”? And hey: what if he’s “totally delusional”? Well, what happens is this: the liberals’ media prints the headlines reading “Dion Claims Victory” in all their papers over the next two days, and they don’t question that delusional Dion assertion. Then they move onto other stories, such as “Obama Makes Magnificent Race Speech”, and “Bush Tries To Deflect Iraq War Disaster Talk” (with a possible sub-headline reading “Critics Claim Bush a War Criminal”).
Yesterday I wrote (in an unusual prediction of upcoming news coverage) how the liberals’ print, TV, and their associated online media will nearly all uniformly cast Monday’s by-election victories as purely Dion and Liberal victories, even though the facts on the ground were just the opposite. I then included several examples of how prescient I was (a monkey could have predicted what I predicted, but go and look—it’s actually almost funny).
It was of course really about Conservative gains on what were already Liberal seats, with the Conservatives winning one of the four outright, and coming within 151 votes of winning another seat—that one a decades-old strong Liberal seat.
The Greens may even have more right to claim victory than either the Conservatives or certainly the Liberals. And they did claim victory, though you’d hardly know it.
The liberals’ media seems to be somehow duty-bound to report that Dion and the Liberals have claimed victory. Of course just because Liberals claimed victory doesn’t mean the suckup media has to report it as such. We know that. They know that. We all know that. But they do it anyway.
And in writing up the associated “news” reports, they could certainly question the Dion and Liberal assertion of “victory”—but they don’t. In fact what they do is closer to the opposite of that.
Today, as yesterday, the drive continues, as if to ensure that the image of “Dion – Liberal Victory” is etched into your mind, notwithstanding reality.
