OTTAWA (CP) – Parse it any way you like, Justice John Gomery’s fact-finding report released Tuesday makes one thing amply clear: the federal sponsorship scandal is a Liberal party scandal.
And so while Prime Minister Paul Martin can take some solace in being personally exonerated by the exhaustive, three-volume tome, he can’t escape its inevitable fallout.
It’s a political mudslide that spared Martin but swamped the foundations of the partisan structure he calls home.
Let me catch my breath. OK. Now, let me repeat the line:
“the federal sponsorship scandal is a Liberal party scandal.”
Why, then, as I’ve asked 8 billion times, has the media insisted on calling the “Liberal Party Scandal”…. the “Federal Sponsorship Scandal”, until just now?!
And how long will this last? How long before they call it “The not-the-current-Liberals but the old Liberals’ scandal”?
