Tapes revealed on Grewal web site

This post edited at 3:20 PM PDT

to round out my rough thoughts which I originally entered on the fly as events were unfolding.

Gurmant Grewal himself has released the tapes on his web site.

He’s also got PDF files of transcripts there, which I’ve now read.

Grewal makes this statement on his web site:

Conservative MP Gurmant Grewal today made public several recordings and transcripts of conversations he held with Tim Murphy (Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister), Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh, and Sudesh Kalia.

The audio files and transcripts, along with a timeline of events, can be accessed below.

Mr. Grewal has now been in touch with the RCMP on this matter, and welcomes any investigation they deem appropriate.  As such, he will have no further public comment on this matter.

Here’s part of a transcript between MP Gurmant Grewal (“GG”) with the supposed go-between Sudesh Kalia (“SK”).  “UD” is Ujjal Dosanjh, the honorable Minister of our North Korean-style Healthcare System.

SK called ( Monday) :
SK – UD called me 6 AM.
GG — Sorry, he didn’t let you sleep.
SK- The phone came since I came very late last night, I could not know and did not pick up.
GG — OK, was he sitting with the PM.
SK — Yes, he (UD) has done this in the morning. He (UD) called twice again. Rest, you have to talk with the big boss (PM). Whatever he (UD) says keep listening, if the meeting takes place with him (PM), then the decision will be made, then it will be ok. Right.
GG — Ok, all right, let us see.
SK- They agree every thing. The only thing is they are asking the procedure again and again. I said he (GG) knows and agrees.
GG- so what is he offering — for one is it Senate and what’s for the other.
SK — No no, not like this, the procedure is that now it will be a hand-shake and later slowly in a month or two it will be done.
GG — they may not betray this.
SK — No no, its PM
GG — They (Liberals) have a record of breaking their commitment. They have broken promises with many others.
SK — They are also right. If they do it now then everything gets upset. They will not deceive because I will have UD sitting in the meeting. Then you in invite me, I will also…

I’m finding THIS transcript particularly interesting.

I think this all tells us a lot and yet not nearly enough to reach any conclusions.

Clearly there are offers made from the Paul Martin’s point-man Tim Murphy, who thanks Grewal for meeting with him (which would seem to imply that it was Murphy’s idea); and it would seem that Liberal Ujjal Dosanjh was also making advances.  There’s definitely dealmaking going on—with Tim Murphy (Liberal) offering goodies and the Conservative Grewal making suggestions for goodies.

While it is in a legal sense a moot point, perhaps, what we don’t yet know is who instigated this—they’re all doing “wrong” in my opinion.  Grewal said he was trying to catch the Liberals in a sting-like operation.  The Liberals claim he approached them.  Either way, they’re all engaged in some bloody awful and, I would contend, unethical discussions.  All of them stink to one degree or another, but possible the Liberal side more, simply because they’re the party in power, and Ministers of the Crown and the right-hand man to the Prime Minister were involved.  And they have all the power—they really hold all the cards.

They were—all of them (Dosanjh, Murphy, Grewal, and possibly Paul Martin) interested in making deals for power and glory at our expense as citizen Canadians and as taxpayers.  It all infuriates me. It shows an utter disregard for the trust, the faith we have all placed in those people. It’s disrespectful to say the least.

There seems to be plenty of information here to warrant an RCMP investigation because in the worst case scenario, these negotiations would indicate a criminal activity.

And unless the rest of the tapes and transcripts change the impression we are left with right now, the deck should probably be cleared of all of them—the whole bunch.  That means resignations and/or at least all of them stepping aside from their respective positions (Grewal can’t step aside from much admittedly) until the smoke clears, including Paul Martin, who already has more than enough reasons to step aside until lots of smoke clears.
