Liberals’ media at work:
One day the Conservatives were elected on a platform of increased transparency and accountability. That’s when there’s news of, say, the Finance Minister trying to keep the lid on the upcoming budget to be revealed the next day. They’re “muzzling” the Finance Minister! Hiding the budget from the people! And yet they were elected on a platform of transparency!!!111!
Another day they were elected on a platform of replacing a corrupt Liberal regime. That’s when the CBC boils up a broth of “NAFTA-GATE”; or on a day when their camera-wielding commandos (and the Liberal Party’s too!—Weird!) magically show up at Conservative Party HQ just as the RCMP and Elections Canada “officials” (snarf) mysteriously start to rifle through the much hated Conservative Party’s internal files (but not the Liberal Party or you’ve got to be kidding party files—weird!).
Today, according to Reuters, from which many liberal media outlets get their stories, the Conservatives were actually elected on none of the above, but rather “on a pledge to boost law and order”. And moreover, they should thus be “embarrassed” about that, you see.
“The revelations are likely to embarrass the Conservative government, which won power in January 2006 on a pledge to boost law and order,” Reuters gratuitously informs Canadians, as if it were suddenly the responsibility of journalists to inform Canadians as to what should and should not “embarrass” Conservatives—or indeed speculate as to which might “likely embarrass” them.
We’re told that according to the latest Auditor-General report, most of the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants let into our country—classified as security risks or illegal immigrants and ordered to leave the country—have been lost. They make it sound like it happened under the Conservatives’ watch, in September 2007 (which, you’ll remember, should “embarrass” them!). How? By writing this:
[Auditor-General] Fraser said that in September 2007, some 63,000 people had been served with immigration warrants ordering them to leave Canada. The Border Services Agency—responsible for expelling those deemed undesirable—knew the location of 22,000.
“The remaining 41,000 cases are individuals with immigration warrants for removal whose whereabouts are unknown to the agency,” Fraser wrote in an official report.
What they don’t inform you is the Liberal Party is actually the culpable party, here. (Golly I am shocked, I tell you!)
In 2003, the last time the Auditor-General checked, it was estimated that there were 36,000 missing illegal immigrants. By September 2007, all of the current mess had accumulated to that new, even more horrific point. And that’s supposed to “embarrass” Conservatives?
Their barely disguised obfuscation notwithstanding, the fact (which they left out entirely) is that it was under the Conservatives government’s watch that the Commons public accounts committee asked Fraser to follow up on the 2003 audit. The resulting report released this week concluded only (by my reading, in any case, but then I’m sane) that by the year 2007, a scant year and a bit after the Conservatives found their way to their new offices which were previously owned by the Joe Honest “Natural Governing Party” (which was and is apparently not subject to any “embarrassment” over their lapses of that dumb “law and order” nonsense), lo and behold, the situation had not improved at all UNDER THE LIBERALS from 2003 through 2007. In spite of the 2003 report by the Auditor-General, and her strong, clear recommendations. It actually continued to get worse.
This is not unlike the Liberals’ Kyoto “commitments”, which we now know were actually “total BS”, but which are now similarly blamed on Conservatives, who—you’ll see—were elected on a promise of meeting Canada’s international commitments… including those ever-so scientific Kyoto targets! Conservatives may “likely” be “embarrassed” by that real soon too. Liberals are embarrassed by nothing.
