Quote of the week Nov. 19, 2004: From an unlikely source.

Of all the reading I did this week, a sentence I read just this morning stood out for me the most.

“The embrace of government and government funding corrupts whatever it touches and that is certainly the case of the scientific process.”

—Marlo Lewis, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

It could be used to explain much of the appeal of liberal politicians and the liberal-left political mantra (and certainly the Liberal Parties in Canada),  but it’s really Marlo Lewis: Scientist—speaking of global warming, and particularly how many scurrilous scientists have successfully promoted the idea that the end of the world is nigh due to human-induced global warming.

Scientists, as she and other scientists insinuate in this article, have become addicted to government grants and handouts—just like other citizens—to fund their research and their lifestyles.  Scientists know what kind of scary-talk attracts funding, with the help of the media who love ‘end of the world’ stories.  They know what buttons to push for funding.

And it’s a lesson in how the liberal-left, with all their social program and hand-outs, manifestly attract voters by getting them hooked on government, and by extension the political party that promises to maintain their addiction, forever more.  Never mind the outcome.

Here’s the article—and it’s a good little read.

Another good source for this kind of breath-of-fresh-air thinking is our own web site and our Steven Milloy.  Milloy makes it his job to debunk the junk science.
