It’s true. I read the story in the National Post this morning—and this isn’t just my vacation talking—I partially agreed with a dipper’s shtick. A dipper named Capstick. (Must …refrain… from …immaturely … poking… fun… even though it’s… Friday).
The story concerns Liberal Frenchman Stephane (the “Green Guru”) Dion’s obsession with cutting and running from Afghanistan.
…NDP spokesman Ian Capstick said the party would not support the latest Liberal move and regards the motion as illogical.
“The Liberals got us into the combat mission in Afghanistan and now they want to look like they oppose the mission,” he said in a statement. “The proposed motion is illogical. The mission ends in 2009. Period. Full Stop. It ends. And, if the Prime Minister wants the combat mission to go longer, he needs another motion from the House of Commons.
“If Stephane Dion wanted to oppose this war, he should have supported the NDP motion last session, and more to the point: He should have spoken out against the Paul Martin decision to start the combat mission in the first place. How can this be the right mission for the Liberals now, but not in 2009?”
And I think by now it’s clear that the Liberal Frenchman, aside from showing an increasingly irrational obsession with cutting and running from our responsibilities in the world and specifically in the war on terror (what is up with this incessant, almost daily demand for a big global announcement of an arbitrary 2009 withdrawal, done in advance, without regard to the situation on the ground there —how intelligent!), he is also presenting a rather disturbing display of that infamous, sadly delusional sense of liberal politician megalomaniacal power tripatitus. Another quote: ”…there will come a time where, indeed, we will not be able to keep this government alive.”
Sorry, oh powerful omnipotent one—but actually I think the people will decide these things—whether that’s OK with you or not—your royal arrogance, sir. And I, for one, warmly welcome that opportunity.
In the meantime, I can hardly wait—I actually crave a big public vote in the House on a motion to continue our full-on military war in Afghanistan—and I’d extend it to Iraq as well—and I can’t wait to appropriately ridicule and post the names and photographs—repeatedly—of all the MPs who vote against our mission continuing as it is and even advancing it forward until the war is won.
