Former Progressive leader and cabinet minister in current leader of the Progressives, Danny Williams, plead guilty today in a case involving political corruption.  I wonder how far up the Danny Williams Tory government chain the corruption goes. Danny Williams, the Progressive premier, is said to have considered this fraudster one of the his most valued members of cabinet.

ST. JOHN’S, N.L.—A former Newfoundland and Labrador cabinet minister pleaded guilty Friday to fraud over $5,000 and influence peddling in the province’s constituency allowance spending scandal.

Ed Byrne, who served in the cabinet of Premier Danny Williams, was charged in 2007 after an investigation into constituency allowance expenses by the provincial auditor general.

Byrne was accused of overspending almost $468,000 in public money by auditor general John Noseworthy. But an agreed statement of facts, which hasn’t been made public yet, will show Byrne overspent $100,000, Simmonds said.

I wonder if Danny Williams can be trusted.
