Political pro-Canada dream comes true, sort of….

Do you ever experience one of those weird coincidences where you stay up at night thinking about something pro-Canadian like the CBC being sold to, say, a fair and balanced enterprising O’company, and then you wake up and read a media report about somebody who was thinking sort of the same thing?  No?  OK fine, it’s just me then.  And I may need to take another pill.

But I couldn’t sleep last night.  I was thinking about the CBC in light of a telephone interview I’m supposed to do with the Wall Street Journal‘s John Fund this coming week.  It’s going to be about Fox News Channel in Canada and how it might be affecting the conservatives in Canada.  And I can’t think about Fox News Channel without thinking about the state-run CBC, to which the Liberals—yes, the governing party—just appointed—APPOINTED—the new Chairman, Soviet Union-style.  No vote.  No Senate screening.  No “candidacy”. They appointed a journalist and screenwriter to the post.  Liberals love those journalists don’t they?  They keep rewarding them!  What a coinkidink that journalists love the liberal-left!

The new Chairman of the state-run billion-dollar-per-year-of taxpayer-funding CBC division of the Liberal Party, Guy Fournier (shockingly from Quebec!) co-wrote the script for the one of the latest liberal-left tributes (citizens, you are hereby instructed to respect and honor liberal-lefty: ______!  Do it NOW!) and taxpayer-funded attempts to rise another liberal-lefty to god-like status (oh, the irony!): the Trudeau miniseries as well as the image upcoming prequel Trudeau: A Maverick in the Making.  I can’t wait for the “Maverick” prequel.  Hey I wonder if it will be shown just before, or during the upcoming election.

But in thinking of things to say to the WSJ about Fox News Channel in Canada, I thought about the idea that the state-run CBC should at the very least NOT be allowed to cover elections any more—at least not until they’re sold or in some way privatized.  It’s an outright conflict of interest, I told myself with much conviction at 3 AM (everything sounds good at 3 AM when you’re half-asleep).  And really, truth be told, it is an outright conflict of interest.  Unfair.  Undeclared anti-conservative campaign advertising.  I went on and on in my mind until about 4:30 then finally drifted off.

Today’s media story gave me hope—at least somebody out there thinks along the same lines as me! Though Senator LeBreton is much more restrained than me…

Tory senator hopes for long lockout

Ottawa — A high-profile Tory senator says she hopes thousands of CBC workers remain locked out for months because she doesn’t want them covering the next federal election.

Marjory LeBreton — a former top aide to Brian Mulroney who still occasionally acts as a spokeswoman for the ex-prime minister — said the CBC is biased in favour of the Liberals and New Democrats.

In a letter to an Ottawa newspaper, she cited poll numbers that suggested NDP and Liberal supporters missed regular CBC coverage the most.

“The lockout has deprived them of their biggest cheerleaders on the national scene,” Ms. LeBreton wrote in a letter published in the Sept. 12 edition of the Hill Times newspaper.

“As far as I am concerned, I hope it takes months to settle the CBC lockout.

“The thought of going through a national election campaign inconveniencing those Liberal and NDP supporters who rely on the CBC is truly something to look forward to.”
