Financial Post columnist Terrence Corcoran in today’s column on the Ontario Liberals’ tax and spend budget:
This is Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario, Liberal Ontario, where taxes are high and spending has nowhere to go but up. You’ve got to hand it to Mr. McGuinty and his Finance Minister, Dwight Duncan. Their fiscal strategy is consistent. When the economy is doing well, keep taxes high and spend big. When the economy is heading into the dumper, keep taxes high and spend big.
None of that Keynesian counter-cyclical stuff. There’s only one cycle in Ontario: spend and be damned.
