UPDATED BELOW
The Canadian state-owned railway company VIA RAIL is answering questions this morning with regard to the report of a death earlier today of an Ontario man in one of their state-owned VIA RAIL trains. My heartfelt sympathies to his family. Several others are reported sick and are being treated in state-owned, state-run hospitals. My prayers go out to them. There is speculation that the death and illnesses are the result of some sort of a “bio-hazard”.
Toronto Star, CTV, CNews.com, and several outlets are reporting the story. No coverage so far at state-owned CBC.ca web site.
No word yet from Greenpeace.
UPDATE:
Turns out the man is a woman. And she may not have died as a result of the same thing that made the others sick.
Federal Health Minister Tony Clement has been briefed on the situation, according to a statement from the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada. So don’t worry: your government is on it. (Reminding me of the Ronald Reagan quote: “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”)
