NDP MP said 40% of Calgary is in poverty; CBC host barely challenges it

NDP MP Peter Julian said, and I quote:  “the poverty rate in Calgary is now over 40%”.

Even the host of the politics program at the state-run CBC news and liberal-left propaganda division of the Liberal Party, Don Newman, seemed incredulous at that bit of twisted Michael Moore-esque pseudo-science on his show, and guffawed.  And he’s sitting at the CBC which gets a BILLION dollars per year of taxpayer cash (that we know of).

“I just want to get the record straight,” he interrupted.  “You mean it has grown by 40% or you mean that 40% of the people in Calgary are below the poverty line … because when you go to Calgary it doesn’t look that way I must say —I haven’t actually seen the numbers but it doesn’t look that when you go to Calgary.”

No, said the NDP politician/expert on everything to do with poor humans who need more government assistance since that government assistance thing is obviously working so, so well.  He said that poverty has DOUBLED (that’s 100%!) over the past ten years, and this gem of scientific knowledge is based on the fact that “food bank usage has doubled”.  I suspect if the number of and amount of food in food banks quadrupled, food bank usage would quadruple too, but I’m not a socialist, I’m insane!

No, he repeated, it now stands at 40% in Calgary today.  He said that 40% of families in Calgary earn less than $20,000.  Not “single-parent” families, mind you —all families.  Oh and also that it’s Ralph Klein’s fault.  Like I had to tell ya!

Yup.  Another day in Canadian media and Canadian politics and leftist propaganda which gets by barely challenged.

Let’s rewind the tape, even though I only have the tail end of it (I heard it, shook my head for a second or two in disbelieve, then pressed “record” so I missed the beginning).

UPDATE:  Video flick removed due to threat from CBC

Perhaps the NDP thinks everyone is really living in poverty compared to folks in Cuba.  Perhaps “poverty” has a different meaning to socialists, much like “marriage” or “family” —to the liberal-lefties.  Maybe they’re living in Bizzaro world, and “poverty” means “rich” to them.  Or maybe it simply means 40% have a non-government job.  I mean I honestly don’t know anymore.

I do know it spells more government funding and more social programs!  And more yummy higher taxes!  Tax the rich!  Tax ’em I tells ya!  And the corporations!  Tax ’em more more more!  Then next year, 75% of Calgarians will be living in poverty!  Inflation!

You can watch the whole show here, at taxpayer expense.
