Sarkozy in climate row over reshuffle

By Ben Hall in Paris
Published: May 27 2009 03:00 | Last updated: May 27 2009 03:00

President Nicolas Sarkozy’s desire to appoint an outspoken climate-change sceptic to a new French super-ministry of industry and innovation has drawn strong protests from party colleagues and environmentalists.

Claude Allègre argues that global warming is not necessarily caused by human activity. Putting him in charge of scientific research would be tantamount to “giving the finger to scientists”, said Nicolas Hulot, France’s best-known environmental activist.

Mr Sarkozy wants to bring Mr Allègre, 72, a freethinking, former socialist education minister, into the government in a reshuffle after next month’s European parliamentary elections….

So that’s fun.

Then there’s this:  The ABC network is launching a new prime time cartoon series called The Goode Family, which mocks — MOCKS I tell you! — the liberal-left man-made global warming alarmist moonbats.  BE SURE TO WATCH IT!  It’s on tonight on ABC at 9:00 pm.

Here’s what our own Steve Milloy says about it:  “Must-see Anti-green TV: ABC’s ‘Goode Family’ ”.

And an excellent blog entry by John Nolte of Big Hollywood:  “NY Times: Knives Come Out for The Goode Family’ ”.

Study says reusable grocery bags dangerous

By Keith Leslie, THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO – The growing popularity of reusable grocery bags could pose a health risk to Canadians by increasing their exposure to dangerous bacteria, says a study commissioned by the plastics industry released Wednesday.

The Canadian Plastics Industry Association hired two independent labs to conduct what it said was the first study of so-called eco-friendly grocery bags in North America, and found 64 per cent of them were contaminated with some level of bacteria.

Forty per cent of the reusable bags tested had yeast or mould, and some had detectable levels of coliforms and fecal intestinal bacteria when there should have been none, said Dr. Richard Summerbell, who was commissioned to evaluate the lab findings. …

Golly, what we need at this juncture is the ingenious wisdom of some environmentalists!

…The World Wildlife Fund, which worked with grocery chains such as Loblaws to convince retailers to charge five cents for each plastic bag to discourage their use, said the concerns raised in the study could be addressed by washing the reusable bags. …

Washing them?  Phosphates!  Pollution!  Won’t that use water?  And soap?  And ‘lectricity?  Blasphemy!

Golly, what we need now is the ingenious wisdom of the gov’ment!  Don’t worry, the story helpfully ends on this bright note:

Ontario’s Environment Ministry said Wednesday it is reviewing the findings of the study.

Oh thank God.  The government will save us again.  Hey I wonder if it will involve money and regulations and meddling in our lives and telling us how to live and stuff!

Oh yeah and there’s this “Man-Made Global Warming” story:

Climate conference sex boom
Copenhagen’s sex trade did brisk business during the recent business climate conference.

The global climate challenge may have been on the daytime agenda during the recent World Business Summit climate conference in Copenhagen, but in the evenings many businessmen, politicians and civil servants are reported to have availed themselves of the capital’s prostitutes.

“We’ve been extremely busy. Politicians also need to relax after a long day,” says ‘Miss Dina’, herself a prostitute.

Good for the economy
Nyhedsbrevet 3F called various escort agencies and prostitutes to hear whether they had been busier than normal during the climate conference – and all agreed; summits in Copenhagen are good for the economy.

Dorit Otzen, who leads Reden International says that major events in Copenhagen attract more sex workers.

“A lot of men in one place means more work for prostitutes. At the same time we have a government that will not ban prostitution, so in fact we invite visitors to avail themselves of prostitutes,” Otzen says.
